Course Description:

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) uses a prescribed drug like methadone or Suboxone to help someone with an opioid dependence reduce the effects of opioid cravings and withdrawal. Dr. Jim Harbor and Rich Jones provide an introduction to MAT, the different options for MAT, and the critical differences between an Office Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) and an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). They also discuss that while MAT addresses physical dependence, it should be paired with counseling or other support to address the mental part of substance use disorder.
